208 To Tokyo by Overnight Train ( 1/4: From Uji, Kyoto to Osaka Station).

日本で現存する唯一の定期夜行列車、サンライズエクスプレス。
超人気の列車で、１か月前午前10時の発売開始直後にはほぼ完売となります。
今回は幸運にもチケットが取れたので、大阪から東京まで乗車することにしました。
The Sunrise Express, the only remaining scheduled overnight train in Japan.
It is an extremely popular train; tickets almost completely sell out immediately after sales begin at 10:00 a.m., one month in advance.
I was lucky enough to get a ticket this time, so I decided to take the train from Osaka to Tokyo.

いつもの大久保駅から、近鉄で京都駅に向かいます。
I’m heading to Kyoto Station on the Kintetsu line from my usual station, Okubo Station.

京都駅から大阪駅に向かうのですが、いつもとは違うルートにしたかったので、新幹線「ひかり663号」を利用しました。
I was heading from Kyoto Station to Osaka Station, but since I wanted to take a different route than usual, I used the Shinkansen “Hikari No. 663.”

新大阪駅に降り立つと、山陽新幹線からの到着列車がやってくる様子でした。
何気なく待っていると、、
As I stepped off the train at Shin-Osaka Station, it looked like a train arriving from the Sanyo Shinkansen line was pulling in.
As I was waiting casually…
来年には引退が決まっている、「500系」車両が入線してきました。
予定しておらず偶然の出来事でしたが、撮影することができました。
これも「きまぐれに」、京都から新幹線を利用したおかげです。
The “500 Series” train—scheduled for retirement next year—has pulled into the station.
It was an unplanned, chance occurrence, but I was able to capture it on camera.
I owe this, too, to the fact that I took the Shinkansen from Kyoto on a whim.

大阪駅に到着しましたが、お目当ての列車までは40分以上の時間があったので、駅の周囲を散策することにしました。
I arrived at Osaka Station, but since I had more than 40 minutes before my intended train departed, I decided to stroll around the area.

大阪駅中央口の南側です。
この時間だからこそ撮影できた風景です。
まだ時間があります。
そうだ、阪急電車の梅田駅にも行ってみよう！
It is on the south side of the Osaka Station Central Gate.
This is a scene that could only have been captured at this time of day.
There is still time.
Oh, let’s go to Hankyu Railway’s Umeda Station, too!

阪急大阪梅田駅です。
神戸線の最終列車が発車します。
最終列車の発車時に流れる「第三の男」のメロディ(一部ですが)と、息の長い乗車促進音を是非お聞きください！
This is Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station.
The last train on the Kobe Line is departing.
Be sure to listen to the melody of “The Third Man” (albeit a short excerpt) that plays when the last train departs, as well as the long, sustained boarding-prompt chime!
それでは、JR大阪駅へ戻ることとしましょう。
Now, let’s head back to JR Osaka Station.
