193 A refreshing early summer scene on a plateau, at Shigaraki Station in Shiga Prefecture.

心地よいお天気の土曜日の午後。少し時間ができたので、京都の宇治から東に向かって車を走らせました。

It was a pleasant Saturday afternoon. I had some free time, so I drove east from Uji in Kyoto.

１時間たらずでたどり着いたのは、滋賀県甲賀市の信楽駅。

陶器の産地として有名なこの街のマスコットでもある、タヌキが出迎えてくれています。

In less than an hour, I arrived at Shigaraki Station in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture.

You’ll be greeted by a raccoon dog, the mascot of this town famous for its pottery production.

タクシー会社も、「タヌキ」をトレードマークにしていました。

A taxi company even used a raccoon dog as its trademark.

タヌキの後ろには、美しい「藤棚」。

Behind the raccoon dog is a beautiful wisteria trellis.

清々しい風が、良い雰囲気を醸し出しています。

A refreshing breeze is creating a pleasant atmosphere.

駅の構内には、多くのマスコットが置かれています。

There are many mascots placed inside the train station.

留置車両の側にも、たくさんいました。。。

幸運、商売の運を呼ぶとされる「タヌキの陶器」は、この街の至る所に溢れています。

There were a lot of them near the parked vehicles as well…

“Raccoon dog pottery,” which is believed to bring good luck and business success, is found everywhere in this town.

JR草津線と接続する貴生川駅からの列車が到着しました。

その走行音が、とても心地よく感じられます。

A train from Kibukawa Station, which connects to the JR Kusatsu Line, has arrived.

The sound of it running is very pleasant.

出発を待つ列車に、観光客だけではなく、地元の方々も乗り込んでいかれました。

Not only tourists, but also locals boarded the train waiting to depart.

列車は再び貴生川駅へ向かい出発してゆきました。

厳しい財政面からも多くの議論がある路線ですが、個人的には今後の存続を願っています。

The train departed again, heading towards Kibukawa Station.

While this route has been the subject of much debate due to its challenging financial situation, I personally hope it will continue in the future.
