197 A journey to visit diesel railcars running in Ibaraki Prefecture. ( 2 / 2 )

２日目の朝。
今回２本目のディーゼルカーは、鹿島臨海鉄道です。
The morning of the second day.
The second diesel train I’ve ridden on this trip is the Kashima Rinkai Railway. ( Rinkai means “along the coast.” )
As with yesterday’s route, although these lines are named “coastal” or “seaside,” the trains actually run in areas away from the coastline, perhaps due to considerations of land acquisition, salt damage, and tsunami effects.

この列車に乗車します。
目的地の鹿島神宮駅までは、およそ80分の旅です。
I will board this train.
The journey to our destination, Kashima Jingu Station, will take approximately 80 minutes.

水戸駅を出発してしばらくは、このように整備された高架区間を走行します。
ローカル線ながら、近代的な雰囲気を感じます。
For a while after departing Mito Station, the train travels along this well-maintained elevated section.
Despite being a local line, it has a modern feel to it.

そしてしばらくすると、このような湖沼地帯を望みながら列車は走行します。
私の住んでいる京都近郊では、あまり見られない風景です。
And after a while, the train travels through a landscape of lakes and marshes like this.
This is a sight that is not often seen in the Kyoto area where I live.

鹿島神宮駅に到着です。
とても閑散とした佇まいですが、鹿島神宮は賑わっているのでしょうか。。
I have arrived at Kashima Jingu Station.
It looks very quiet, but is Kashima Shrine actually bustling with activity?

鹿島神宮の境内に到着です。
小高い丘の上に位置しているので、ここまでおよそ20分程度の上り坂で、ちょっとした運動です。
午前中ということもあってか混雑こそしていませんでしたが、参拝の方々がおられました。
ここへは、車で来られる方が多数派なのですね。。
I have arrived at the grounds of Kashima Shrine.
Since it’s located on a small hill, it’s about a 20-minute uphill walk to get here, which is a bit of a workout.
Perhaps because it was still morning, it wasn’t crowded, but there were people there to pray.
It seems most people arrive here by car.

境内には「鹿園」があります。
私が暮らしていた、京都・洛西の地にある大原野神社にも、かつてはこのような「鹿園」があったことを思い出しました。
ここにいる鹿たちは、見ていて飽きないものですね。
There is a “deer park” on the temple grounds.
The deer here, like those in Nara Park, are considered “messengers of the Deity ( ≒ gods )”.
I recalled that there used to be a “deer park” like this at Oharano Shrine in Rakusai, Kyoto, where I used to live.
The deer here are fascinating to watch; you could watch them all day.

茶店で一服。
お抹茶の味などたいしてわからないわたしですが、「宇治在住」というだけで、抹茶を見かけると頼んでしまいます。。
I took a break at a tea shop.
I don’t really know much about the taste of matcha, but simply because I live in Uji, I order it whenever I see it on the menu.( The Uji area of Kyoto is a region that can be described as one of Japan’s leading production and distribution centers for high-quality Japanese green tea, specifically matcha. )

参拝を終えた後は、鹿島神宮駅からJRの列車を乗り継いで東京へと向かいます。
After finishing my worship to the shrine, I’ll take a JR train from Kashima Jingu Station to head to Tokyo.

水郷地域を越える長い鉄橋。
走行音にワクワクします。
A long railway bridge crosses a waterside region.
The sound of the engine running is exciting.

そして利根川を越える大トラス橋。
単線区間なので、トンネルを通り抜けるようなシーンが圧巻です。
鉄道旅の醍醐味を感じました。
And then there’s the large truss bridge that crosses the Tone River.
Since it’s a single-track section, the scenes of passing through tunnels are truly breathtaking.
I truly experienced the joy of train travel.

成田駅に到着です。
I have arrived at Narita Station in Chiba Prefecture.
★
充実の２日間でした。
後はこの快速列車で、一路東京を目指します。
It was a fulfilling two days.
Now, I’ll take this rapid train straight to Tokyo.
