104 To Tokyo by Odakyu.
今回の東京遠征は、いつもと少し違ったルートで向かいます。
This Tokyo expedition will take a slightly different route than usual.

朝の京都駅。
Kyoto station in the morning.
新幹線の改札口には、多くの人が戻ってきていました。
Many people were returning to the Shinkansen ticket gates.

東京行きのこだま708号に乗車します。
I will be on the Kodama 708 bound for Tokyo.

朝食は、名古屋駅で調達。
Breakfast is purchased at Nagoya Station.
松浦商店さんの「復刻弁当」。昭和の頃のお弁当を、可能な限り再現されています。
The “Resurrection Lunch Box” made by Matsuura Shoten, a local company, is a reproduction of an item made in the mid-20th century as much as possible.
このお弁当は、おかずももちろんですが、なにより「白ごはん」がとっても美味しいのです！
It is a simple bento ( = lunch box ) with a variety of side dishes, but above all, the “white rice” is very delicious！
最近の駅弁は種類も豊富で美味しいものばかりですが、普段の食事なら僕はこのスタイルの「幕の内弁当」が落ち着きます。
Although there is a wide variety of delicious Ekiben ( = Lunch boxes sold at train stations ) available these days, for an everyday meal, I am more at home with this style of “Makunouchi Bento”.

その後、新幹線を降りたのは、神奈川県の小田原駅。
Later, I got off the Shinkansen at Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture.
小田急線の小田原駅は、ドームのような高い天井で、開放感を感じます。
Odawara Station on the Odakyu Line has a dome-like high ceiling, giving it a sense of spaciousness.

小田原駅から新宿駅までは、この特急列車に乗ります。
I take this express train from Odawara Station to Shinjuku Station.

途中の風景を撮影していると、

この列車からも富士山が見えることに、気づきました。
I noticed that Mt. Fuji is also visible from this train.
いつもは、「富士山 ＝ 新幹線」というイメージなので、少し離れたこの場所から見えたことに感動です。
“Mt. Fuji = the view from the Shinkansen,” so I was impressed that I could see it from this location, which is a bit far away.

10両編成の列車は、一路新宿を目指します。
The 10-car train heads for Shinjuku on its way.

新宿に到着です。
Arrival at Shinjuku.
ここには以前から気になっていた「食堂」があります。
Here is a “classic Japanese-style restaurant” that has been on my mind for some time.
東京で最初の食事は、ここでいただきます。
My first meal in Tokyo will be served here.

白ごはん、お味噌汁、鯖の味噌煮に、ハムエッグ。
White rice, miso soup, mackerel cooked in miso, and ham and eggs.
この安定感が大きな満足をもたらしてくれました。
This stability brought me great satisfaction.
ここの食堂。おそらくご家族で経営されてるのだと思うのですが、お母様とお嬢さんの少し熱めのコミュニケーションがとっても素敵でした。
The diner here. I think it is probably run by a family, and the slightly heated communication between the mother and daughter was very nice.
ぜひまた、来ようと思っています。
