084 Interval time with tramcar.
この日は京都の四条大宮で、とある僕の出番もあるイベントがありました。
On this day, there was an event at Shijo Omiya in Kyoto, where I was also present.
周囲には「全く緊張していない体」を装っていましたが、やはりのそこそこの緊張感がありました。
I pretended to everyone around me that I was not nervous at all, but I was.
リハーサルを終え、次のタイムスケジュールまで時間があったので、外に出てみると、

すぐそばには、嵐電・四条大宮駅が。。
Nearby was Shijo-Omiya station.
時間は十分にあったので、吸い込まれるように駅に入ります。
I entered the station as if sucked in.

折り返しで嵐山行きとなる列車が、やってきました。
The train that will turn around and go to Arashiyama has arrived.
これはもう、乗っちゃいますよね。
I’m already on board with this one.
ひとまず、一駅隣の「西院(さい)駅」へ向かいます。
For the time being, I am going to the next “Sai station”.

西院(さい)駅の手前には、京都市内のメインストリートである四条通と交差する踏切があります。
In front of Sai Station, there is a railroad crossing that intersects with Shijo-dori, the main street in Kyoto City.
この踏切は、交通量の多い四条通にあるので、警報器はあっても遮断機がありません。
This crossing, located on busy Shijo Street, has an alarm but no circuit breaker.
ですので、列車自体はコンパクトサイズですが、側を走り抜ける時は迫力があります。
So, although the train itself is compact in size, it is powerful when it runs through the side.

And then…
懐古的な警報器の音色を響かせているのは、電柱に据え付けられたこの鐘です。
The nostalgic tone of the alarm is echoed by this bell, mounted on a power pole.
この形式は「電鐘式(でんしょうしき)」とも「打鐘式(だしょうしき)」とも呼ばれていますが、僕は雰囲気がよく現されている「打鐘式」という呼び名が好きです。
The alarm is sounded by striking a bell.

それでは、あと少しだけ「小旅行」を続けてみたいと思います。
Now I would like to continue my “excursion” for a few more hours.
西院(さい)駅の次、西大路三条駅から山ノ内駅までの「路面電車」区間に乗車します。
After Sai station, board the “streetcar” section from Nishioji Sanjo station to Yamanouchi station.
京都市内のゆったりとした道路を、嵐電が軽快に走ります。
The Randen train runs nimbly along the leisurely streets of Kyoto City.
ただし、この道で自動車を運転される方は、ご注意ください。
However, motorists on this road should use caution.
ここの道路は、路面電車の軌道が敷設されているが故に、「制限時速が40km / h」なんです。
The road here has a “speed limit of 40 km / h” because of the tram tracks.
大切なことなので、「過去の出来事を思い出して」もう一度言います。
It is important, so I will say it again, “remembering what happened in my past”.

山ノ内駅です。
This is Yamanouchi Station.
乗車スペースが、あまりにもコンパクト。
It is a very small riding space.
ここのホームには、「列車が到着してから横断して(=乗り場に来て)ください」と表示されています。
The platform here is marked “Please cross (=come to the boarding area) when the train arrives.

では、鉄道の旅を十分に堪能し、気持ちも良いコンディションになってきたので、四条大宮へ戻ることにします。
Now that I have fully enjoyed my train trip and am feeling in good condition, I will return to Shijo-Omiya.
