一旦、九州に上陸です。

I am landing in Kyushu for a time.

ここまで乗ってきた「さくら号」は、はるか先の鹿児島県まで走って行きますが、ここでお別れです。

The Shinkansen I have ridden so far will run to Kagoshima Prefecture far ahead, but this is where I will part ways with it.

ホームを降りて改札口に向かうと、目の前で綿菓子を作ってくれるショップがありました。

As I walked down the platform to the ticket gate, I saw a store making cotton candy right in front of me.

この動画は「４倍速」ですが、この所作は何度見ても飽きませんよね。

This video is in “4x speed,” but I never get tired of seeing this behavior over and over again.

こういった個性的なデザイン、カラーリングの車両を見ると「九州に来た」ことを実感します。

When I see these cars with unique designs and colorings, I realize that I have come to Kyushu.

この列車で、下関に戻ります。

この車両も、そろそろ「クラシックカー」の仲間入りをするような年代になってきましたね。

On this train I will return to Shimonoseki. This train is getting old enough to be one of the “classic cars” by now.

門司駅を出発して、これから関門トンネルに入ります。

Departing from Moji Station, this train will now enter the Kanmon Tunnel.

長いトンネルを抜け、本州に再上陸です。

After a long tunnel, the train is back on the mainland.

下関駅からは、名車・キハ47が出発するところでした。

この形式の車両には、先日のブログでも紹介した同窓会旅行の時に乗車しましたが、このように出発する風景を駅からの眺めるのも格別です。

The famous diesel car was about to depart from Shimonoseki Station. I rode this type of car on the reunion trip I mentioned in my blog the other day, and watching it depart like this from the station is also very special.

下関といえば、やっぱり「ふぐ」ですよね。

駅が改築されてからも、この蕎麦屋さんに出会えて本当によかったです。

Shimonoseki is the largest distribution center for Fugu (Pufferfish) in Japan. This soba restaurant serves Fugu Tempura Soba (buckwheat noodles).
Visiting this restaurant was one of the objectives of this trip.
