059 The City of Navies.
今回の訪問地は横須賀。
The place I visited this time was Yokosuka.
日本の海上自衛隊と、アメリカの海軍施設がある街です。
It is a city with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the US Navy facilities.

降り立ったのは、JR横須賀駅。
The station where I got off is JR Yokosuka.
想像よりもコンパクトなでした。
It was a smaller station than I had imagined.

駅の構内の様子です。
It is inside the station.
基本的に３番線のみが使用されており、１面１線の活用なので列車同士の行き違いは行われない構造です。
Basically, only track 3 is used, and since it utilizes one line on each side, the structure does not allow trains to cross each other.

横須賀のメインストリート、どぶ板通りです。
This is Dobuita-dori(= street), the main street of Yokosuka.
こういった、ちょっとした空気感が関西とは違う文化を感じます。
This kind of atmosphere makes me feel a different culture from West Japan.

スカジャンの「スカ」は、横須賀の「スカ」だったんですね。
The Souvenir jacket is called “Sukajan” in Japan. This style of jacket is also called a “jumper”. It seems that it came to be called “Sukajan” because it is a “Jumper that spread as a souvenir from Yokosuka to the United States”.
しかし、時間が早かったせいか、スカジャンを着てる地元の人は見かけませんでした。
It is a shop of souvenir jacket called “Sukajan”.

お昼ごはんは、ここでいただきました。

美味しそうです。美味しかったです。

でも、いつもボリューミーなハンバーガーを見ると、食べ方を考えてします。
But when I see a volumey hamburger, I always think about how to eat it.
やはり、「圧縮」が正解なのでしょうか。。

ここだけを見ると、アメリカのまちのようです。
Looking only here, it looks like an American town.
不動産屋さんですね。で、左側のお店の名前、ミリタリーハウジングって。。
It’s a real estate agent. And the name of the shop on the left is concrete.

京都在住の私には、この付近の一般的な相場はわかりません。
As a resident of Kyoto, I don’t know the general market price around here.
ですが、アメリカの人向けだからでしょうか、間取りが広く、その分、価格も京都と比べれば高額のようにも思えます。
However, probably because it is for Americans, the floor plan is wide, and the price seems to be higher than Kyoto.

インターナショナルスクールの広告ですね。
It’s an advertisement for an international school.
海に近く、山に近い、すなわち自然環境に恵まれているということがセールスポイントのようです。
It seems that the selling point is that it is close to the sea and close to the mountains, that is, it is blessed with a natural environment.

アメリカ海軍施設のゲートです。流石に、内部に向けてカメラを構えることはできませんでした。
It is the gate of the US Navy facility. As expected, I couldn’t hold the camera inward.

これらは、我が国の海上自衛艦。
These are Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces.
国を護る堂々とした容姿、力強さを感じます。
I feel the dignified appearance and strength that protects the country.
私の地元である京都にも、日本海に面した舞鶴に海上自衛隊の基地があります。
In my hometown of Kyoto, there is a Maritime Self-Defense Force base in Maizuru facing the Japan Sea.
舞鶴は日本海側の海上防衛の要衝で、数多くの自衛艦が停泊をしています。
Maizuru is a key point of maritime defense on the Japan Sea side, and many self-defense ships are moored.
ただ、同じ海上自衛隊の基地がある街でも、横須賀は首都・東京に近く、米軍施設が隣接していることもあり、とても新鮮な印象を受けた街でした。
However, even in the city where the same Maritime Self-Defense Force base is located, Yokosuka is close to the capital, Tokyo, and the US military facilities are adjacent to it, so it was a very fresh impression.
この興味深い街のハンバーガー、また食べに行きたいと思っています。
