いよいよ飯田線の旅も、ラストスパートにかかります。
Finally, the trip on the Iida Line will take place at the last spurt.s

天竜峡駅で先ほどの「特急・伊那路」から、普通列車の茅野行きに乗り換え、中央東線の岡谷駅を目指します。
At Tenryukyo Station, change to the regular train bound for Chino from the “Limited Express Inaji” and head for Okaya Station on the Chuo East Line.

12:33発の普通列車。ここから岡谷駅まで約3時間20分、「ローカル線 普通列車の旅」です。
Regular train departing at 12:33. It takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes from here to Okaya Station, which is a “local line ordinary train trip”.
この旅では途中の豊川駅から、ここ天竜峡駅まで特急列車に乗りましたが、ここ飯田線には「豊橋から岡谷まで」およそ7時間かけて走破する普通列車もあります。
On this trip, I took a limited express train from Toyokawa Station to Tenryukyo Station, but there is also a regular train that runs “from Toyohashi to Okaya” for about 7 hours on the Iida Line.

It is Iida station at 13:04.
ここには車体に青いラインカラーを纏った、JR東日本の車両が留まっていました。
A JR East train with a blue line color on the car body stayed here.
普段、なかなか目にすることのない車両なので、「遠くに来た」実感が湧きます。
It’s a vehicle that you rarely see, so you can feel that you’ve come a long way.

飯田線には、今まで何度か乗車していますが、この発電所に気づいたのは初めてです。
I’ve been on the Iida Line several times, but this is the first time I’ve noticed this power plant.
左側が「生田発電所」、右側が「小渋第2発電所」です。
The left side is “Ikuta Power Plant” and the right side is “Koshibu No. 2 Power Plant”.
先ほども佐久間発電所の横を通りましたが、飯田線沿線の天竜川水系は水資源が豊富なため発電所が多くあり、今なお発電を通じて日本産業の発展に大きく寄与している地域であることが伺えます。
I passed by the Sakuma power plant earlier, but the Tenryu River basin along the Iida line has many power plants due to its abundant water resources, and it is still a region that greatly contributes to the development of Japanese industry through power generation.

木曽山脈の空木岳(うつぎだけ)でしょうか。山頂付近には、雪が残っています。

では、いよいよ私が感じる飯田線の真骨頂がやってきます。
Then, the true value of the Iida Line that I feel is finally coming.
まずは、⬇️の地図をご覧ください。
First of all, please see the map of ⬇️.
飯田線は基本的に、天竜川と並行して河岸段丘に沿って走行しています。
The Iida Line basically runs along the river terrace in parallel with the Tenryu River.
しかしながら、⬆️の地図にあるように、天竜川の直角に合流する河川も独自の段丘を形成しています。
However, as shown in the map of ⬆️, the rivers that join at right angles to the Tenryu River also form their own terraces.
その区間を直進して渡河しようとすると大掛かりな橋梁建設が必要になります。
If the railroad goes straight on that section and tries to cross the river, a large-scale bridge construction will be required.
そこで、建設する橋梁をできる限りコンパクトに等高線に沿って「Ω」字状に線路を敷設したのです。
Therefore, the bridge to be constructed was laid in an “Ω” shape along the contour lines as compactly as possible.
列車は田切駅を発車後、西、北、東、そして再び北に進路をとって進み、中田切川を越えてゆきます。
After leaving Tagiri Station, the train will take a course west, north, east, and then north again, crossing the Nakatagiri River.

「黄色の点線で囲まれた部分」に、この先、中田切川を渡った後にこの列車が進む線路が見えています。

駒ヶ根駅で、行き違いの列車待ちです。

この旅、もう少し続きます。
