025 Sunrise Seto

今回の旅は、四国・高松からのサンライズ瀬戸号。
岡山から併結されるサンライズ出雲号とともに、日本で唯一残る定期列車の寝台特急です。
This trip is the Sunrise Seto from Takamatsu, Shikoku.
Along with the Sunrise Izumo, which is connected from Okayama, it is the only remaining regular train sleeper Limited Express in Japan.

まずは、かつて四国の玄関口であった高松駅からのスタートです。
1988年４月までは宇高連絡船との接続駅で活況を呈していたこの駅ですが、瀬戸大橋の開通により国鉄(JR)連絡船が廃止され、現在のような落ち着いた姿になりました。
First, start from Takamatsu Station, which was once the gateway to Shikoku.
Until April 1988, this station was booming as a connecting station with the U-Kou connecting ship, but with the opening of the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the JNR (JR) connecting ship was abolished, and it has become as calm as it is now. ..

改札口の電光掲示板には、サンライズ瀬戸の表示がされています。
高松駅での「東京行き」の表示が、旅行気分を盛り上げます。

９番線には既に、列車が入線しています。
1998年から走行する285系車両、23年を経過した今もなお堂々とした美しさを誇っています。
There is already a train on line 9.
The 285 series train, which has been running since 1998, still boasts a majestic beauty after 23 years.

今回は11号車に乗車です。
車内に入る最初の一歩に、気分も高揚します。
This time I’m on car 11.

車内の通路です。
寝台室内空間確保のため、通路は一人が通ることができる幅です。
外観同様の美しさは、日々のメンテナンスの賜物だと思います。
スタッフの方のお仕事ぶりに、敬意を表します。

I think that the beauty as well as the appearance is the result of daily maintenance.

予約した部屋は、11号車１番。
The room I reserved is No. 11 car No. 1.

階段を降りて、右側が部屋です。
Go down the stairs and the room is on the right.

入室時には、自動ロックの暗証番号を設定します。
When you enter the room, you will set an automatic lock PIN.

部屋は、サンライズツイン。
少し贅沢に、広々とした空間での旅としました。
この清潔感、さすが日本の鉄道です。
The room is Sunrise Twin.
I decided to travel in a spacious space with a little luxury.
This cleanliness is truly a Japanese railway.

部屋の右サイドには、荷物置き場があります。
この限られた空間の活用が嬉しいですね。
There is a luggage storage on the right side of the room.
I’m happy to utilize this limited space.

部屋の奥から、入り口を望みます。
入り口のドアには鏡があります。細やかな心遣いだと思います。
There is a mirror on the entrance door. I think it’s a delicate consideration.

高松を出発すると、坂出、児島、岡山、姫路、三宮、大阪と停車します。
そして京都には深夜１時、静まり返った駅を通過して行きます。
いつも通勤で利用する駅ですが、全く異なる印象が新鮮です。
Departing from Takamatsu, it stops at Sakaide, Kojima, Okayama, Himeji, Sannomiya, and Osaka.
Then, at 1 am, we will pass through a quiet station to Kyoto.
It’s a station that I always use for commuting, but the impression is completely different.

途中何度か運転士交代のため、客扱いをしない停車を行ない、

静岡駅到着前に夜明けです。
東海道本線の東京行きで夜明けを迎える度に、かつての寝台急行「銀河」を思い出します。
学生の頃は友人と乗車、楽しい記憶が蘇ります。
It is dawn before arriving at Shizuoka station.
Every time I reach the dawn on the Tokaido Main Line bound for Tokyo, I remember the former sleeper express “Ginga”.
When I was a student, riding with friends revived my happy memories.

朝日を受ける富士山。
山頂には雲がかかっていました。
何故でしょう、新幹線に乗っていても富士山の前を通ると、必ず写真を撮ってしまいます。
Mt. Fuji receiving the rising sun.
There was a cloud on the top of the mountain.
I wonder why, even if I’m on the Shinkansen, when I pass in front of Mt. Fuji, I always take pictures.

熱海駅には５時43分の到着。
一日の始まりを感じます。
Arrived at Atami Station at 5:43.
I feel the beginning of the day.

６時44分、横浜到着。この駅で下車します。
JR東日本の発車メロディ、旅の気分が掻き立てられます。
寝台列車は途中何度か目が覚めてしまい、完全に熟睡ができないのですが、降り立つとまた乗りたくなってしまいます。
次回はサンライズ出雲号で、東京から出雲市に向かってみたいと思います。
Arrived in Yokohama at 6:44. Get off at this station.
The departure melody of JR East and the feeling of traveling will be aroused.
The sleeper train wakes up several times on the way and I can’t sleep well, but when I get off, I want to get on again.
