関門海峡を望む、下関市内の唐戸地区にやってきました。

I came to the Karato district of Shimonoseki City, overlooking the Kanmon Straits lying between Honshu Island and Kyushu Island.

ここまで来ると、対岸の門司港が間近に見えます。

At this point, Moji Port on the other side of the river can be seen up close.

今でこそ、先ほどのように鉄道で関門海峡を簡単に越えることができますが、かつてはこのように船での移動でした。

Nowadays, one can easily cross the Kanmon Straits by rail, as mentioned earlier, but in the past, travel was by boat, as shown here.

船には船の良さがあり、今もこのように海を渡れることができるのは嬉しいことです。

The ship has its own advantages and I am glad that we can still cross the sea in this way.

門司港に到着してしばらくすると、日もすっかり暮れて、下関の街の夜景が綺麗に見えます。

A short time after arriving at Mojiko, the sun has completely set and the night view of the city of Shimonoseki is beautiful.

門司港駅。

2019年に、1914年当時の姿へ復元されています。

Mojiko Station is being restored to its 1914 appearance in 2019.

門司港駅には、現代の駅ではほとんど見なくなったこのような洗面所があります。

Mojiko Station has such washrooms, which are rarely seen in modern stations.

蒸気機関車の時代には、列車から降りた乗客が利用していたのでしょうか。

In the days of steam locomotives, was it used by passengers getting off the train?

頭端式ホームならではの駅名標が、情緒ある雰囲気を盛り立てています。

The station name sign, which is unique to the head-end platform, adds to the emotional atmosphere.

今夜の宿泊地、小倉に戻ってきました。

I returned to Kokura, where I would be staying tonight.

駅で見つけた、この「かしわうどん」もかなり魅力的でしたが、今夜は街に出て夕食を探してみようと思います。

This “Kashiwa Udon ( = Japanese noodles with boiled chicken” that I found at the train station was quite tempting, but I think I will go into town tonight and try to find dinner.

I have found a wonderful dining experience.

美味しいお酒と一緒にいただくことにします。
